Your OpenAI Dot and WhatsApp: How to Set Up a WhatsApp Assistant With Your Dot

The short answer

Your dot can sign you up for a WhatsApp assistant and set it up, but ours says it can't add the connection on its own, even with its own computer. You add Conciergr once, as a custom MCP server on chatgpt.com, and your dot then uses it. We asked ours whether it could have added the server itself, and it told us: "you'd need to add it on chatgpt.com and approve OAuth yourself". The address is https://conciergr.com/mcp.

We ran the prompt below in a dot on 1 November 2026, with Conciergr already added in ChatGPT. It reached Stripe's card page, where we stopped.

The prompt to paste into your dot

Sign me up for Conciergr, the WhatsApp assistant for my business, and set it up. First, make sure you can use Conciergr. It is a custom MCP server at https://conciergr.com/mcp. If you can't add it yourself, tell me where to click: on chatgpt.com, Plugins, Add, Add custom MCP server, name it Conciergr, paste the address, keep OAuth, tick I understand and want to continue, Create as a plugin. It signs in with OAuth: there is no API key. I sign in on Conciergr's page myself with my business email and connect you. Once you're connected, follow Conciergr's instructions to sign me up and set everything up, one step at a time. Only I add the card and connect my WhatsApp number.

The steps

  1. Copy the prompt above.
  2. Paste it into your dot. Open your dot in ChatGPT (chatgpt.com/dots on the web). It first checks whether it can use Conciergr already.
  3. Add Conciergr once on chatgpt.com. Open Plugins, press Add, then Add custom MCP server. Name it Conciergr, paste the address, keep OAuth, tick "I understand and want to continue" and press Create as a plugin. If you've already added it to ChatGPT, skip this: your dot sees it too.
  4. Sign in and approve on Conciergr's page, with your business email.
  5. Tell your dot the business name. It starts your signup and sends you the card page.
  6. Add your card on Stripe's page, in the browser you use for Conciergr. Only you can do this, and nothing is charged during the 30-day trial.
  7. Connect your WhatsApp number in Meta's window, on the phone with your WhatsApp Business app.
  8. Let it set everything up, and tell it when to switch the assistant on. Your assistant stays paused until you say.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why use a dot rather than a normal ChatGPT chat?

A dot keeps working when you're away, so it could suit the slow parts, such as chasing what's missing from your Sheet. We haven't run that. For the signup itself, a normal ChatGPT chat does the same job.

Can I get a dot in my country?

OpenAI's help page "Getting started with your dot" (read 1 November 2026) says dots are rolling out to Pro users aged 18 and over outside the EEA, Switzerland and the UK, and to Business Premium in supported regions. If you're on Pro in the UK, the EEA or Switzerland, use ChatGPT or Claude instead.

Can my dot change things on its own in the background?

Partly. OpenAI's "Introducing dots" (read 1 November 2026) says proactive research uses read-only tools. Scheduled tasks and jobs you give it can act, within the rules you set, so set those before leaving it alone.

Should I let my dot read my customer chats?

Think first. OpenAI's help says a dot can review what's in your connected apps proactively and form memories from it, even when you haven't asked, and that disconnecting an app doesn't delete what it already obtained. Connected to Conciergr, that can include your customers' chats, so check your data settings, including "Improve the model for everyone", before you connect.

Can my dot message my customers?

No. Conciergr doesn't let any connected AI app send messages to your customers, take a payment or connect a number.

Do you have this for other AI apps?

Yes: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok and Meta's Muse. All of them are on the AI assistants page.

Put your WhatsApp line on autopilot.

Conciergr answers your enquiries in seconds, around the clock, from documents you own, and your team keeps using WhatsApp exactly as before. Sign up by pasting one prompt into Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini; you add the card and connect WhatsApp yourself, and the first 30 days are free.
